Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing - Some Crucial Factors

Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing

The efficiency and performance are the most relevant commercial value of any mechanical equipment. When it comes to the automobile industry it has more relevance. The main function of the bearing is to limit the relational motion of mechanical parts by reducing friction. Friction is one of the major hindrances towards better performance. Bearings are used to reduce it.

Bearings are available in plain, spherical, cylindrical, and needle shapes. The plain bearings do not contribute much to the friction as it has a plain surface. But the ball bearings with cylindrical and spherical shapes play a greater role in reducing friction. The bearings help to roll over other metal parts so that friction is very less in between. A spherical roller thrust bearing is a rolling element that permits angular misalignments and less friction. The misalignment is made possible by the spherical shape of the housing washer. It is designed to carry radial loads and heavy axial loads in one direction.

It consists of a shaft washer, a housing washer, and a cage. The internal design of the bearings is not limited by the standardizing agencies. So, it varies according to the manufacturers. But some common design parameters are

• Roller shape and design

• Flange design

• Non- rotational notches in house washer

Type of Bearings

Bearings are available in several types.

• Plain Bearings -it consists of a shaft rotating in a hole

• Rolling bearings are of two types of ball bearing and roller bearings. In ball bearings, the rolling element is spherical. In roller bearings, the rolling element is cylindrical, taper, or spherical rollers.

• Fluid Bearings - it is a special type of bearings. Pressurized gas or liquid is filed to carry the loads and eliminate friction. It is used for machines that require high speed.

• Hydrostatic bearings- here pressurized fluid acts as a rolling element between parts.

Features of Spherical Roller Thrust Bearing

This type of bearing is very much suitable for heavy axial and radial loads. Its raceways are inclined to the bearing axis rather than a straight line. So, these rollers fit into the raceways and can accommodate misalignments.

• It is available in single and double rotation

• High-quality steel extends the life of bearings

• High graded balls are used

• It has a high axial load carrying capacity

• Self-aligning capacity

These are some of the key features of the spherical roller thrust bearing. Bearings are available in several types, designs, and sizes. Many companies are there in the market with a new type of bearings with new specifications. You have to be very careful ins electing the bearings for your vehicle. A wrong selection may lead to the premature failure of the mechanical devices. Branded products follow industrial standards and ensure expected performance.
