Application and Advantages of Using WS2 Dry Lube

WS2 Dry Lube

Tungsten disulfide is in short termed as WS2, which is classified into the group of metal dichalcogenides. This inorganic chemical compound made of tungsten and sulfur is available in the nature in the form of tungstenite. It can also be manufactured synthetically and thus, it is widely available as particles of different sizes. WS2 dry lube is a popular lubricant used in all industries and its application is similar to that of molybdenum disulfide.

Application process of WS2 coating

A machine needs to be thoroughly cleaned to free its surfaces from dust, dirt, traces of grease, or oil particles. Then machine parts can be treated with sandblasting to make ready for undergoing the lubrication procedure. Now, WS2 is applied with the help of a direct impingement system that works at a high speed. This compound can be used in the form of powder, or dissolved in ethanol or water to use for spraying. The lubricated machine parts are then cleaned by applying ultrasonic process to shed off the excess WS2 coating that has failed to bind to the substrate surface.

Why is WS2 coating applied for lubrication?

WS2 coating reduces the friction between two surfaces to a huge extent, resulting in better performances of lubricated machine. This WS2 lubrication also increases the longevity of those coated machine parts.

The lubrication coating of WS2 decreases all disturbing noises caused by frictions of two metal surfaces during movements of machines. The wear and tear of machine parts due to the difference in hardness of two metals can be prevented by this lubrication.

The texture of tungsten disulfide enables providing 100% lubrication to all types of machinery parts. Thus, it is one of the best lubricants to minimize the friction between surfaces.

Molecules of WS2 bind with the molecules of the metal to which it is applied for lubrication. Thus, the WS2 coating is highly durable and does not easily flake off from the surface where it is applied.

A coating of WS2 can withstand a huge pressure up to 100,000 PSI, which makes it apt for using on heavy load-bearing machines.

Since WS2 does not react chemically with other metals, it can be used for lubricating parts of vacuum cleaners, automobile parts, fuel cells, microelectronic systems, and military applications.
